A new simpli!ed thermal design tool for architects

چکیده

Architects form an integral link in the design of e.cient buildings. Energy-e.cient design strategies therefore, require architects and engineers to work closely together in optimising the building shell. However, this is not always practical. Architects must therefore, be able to perform a preliminary thermal analysis if energy e.cient design strategies are to succeed. Existing tools do not cater for them or !t their design methodology. A need therefore exists for a simpli!ed thermal design tool for architects. This article discusses the development of a tool to ful!l this requirement. c © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Whitcomb and Yoerger : Non - Linear Dynamic Thruster

| This paper examines dynamical models for bladedpropeller type marine thrusters. Previously reported thruster dynamics models are reviewed, and a simpli ed model is proposed. Experimental testing of both the transient and steady-state performance of a marine thruster corroborates previously reported data, validates the simpli ed thruster model, and raises new questions. A companion paper repor...

Psychrometric chart as a basis for outdoor thermal analysis

Preparing thermal comfort conditions in outdoor public spaces is one of the considerations of architectural design. If the constructed area does not support comfortable conditions in outdoor spaces, it will cause microclimatic problems for pedestrians and adjacent buildings. Regarding the different thermal comfort conditions in outdoor spaces in comparison with indoor, several indices have b...

Engineering a Simplified 0-Bit Consistent Weighted Sampling

The Min-Hashing approach to sketching has become an important tool in data analysis, search, and classi cation. To apply it to real-valued datasets, the ICWS algorithm has become a seminal approach that is widely used, and provides state-of-the-art performance for this problem space. However, ICWS su ers a computational burden as the sketch size K increases. We develop a new Simpli ed approach ...

Simpli"ed models of neocortical pyramidal cells preserving somatodendritic voltage attenuation

Simpli"ed models are needed for performing large-scale network simulations involving thousands of cells. Ideally, these models should be as simple as possible, but still capture important electrotonic properties, such as voltage attenuation. Here, we propose a method to design simpli"ed models with correct voltage attenuation, based on camera-lucida reconstructions of neurons. The simpli"ed mod...

A New Approach to Subdivision Simpli cation

The line simpli cation problem is an old and well-studied problem in cartography. Although there are several algorithms to compute a simpli cation, there seem to be no algorithms that perform line simpli cation in the context of other geographical objects. This paper presents a nearly quadratic time algorithm for the following line simpli cation problem: Given a polygonal line, a set of extra p...
